☕ As you may know, we are big fans of coffee and we are not the only ones ☕

Globally, people consume some 2.25 billion cups of coffee every single day. That’s quite something, right?

Whether you are a coffee lover or new fan, in today’s post we would like to share some facts on this tasty topic and debunk some Coffee Myths along the way. Ready?

Myth 1: The country with the highest coffee consumption is *not* what you think

What nation do you think consumes the most coffee? Italy? Spain? Brazil? Nope! Believe it or not it is…drumroll…

?? FINLAND! ??

Yes that’s right. When it comes to coffee consumption, it is actually the Finns who come out on top, with the highest per capita consumption of coffee in the whole world. Exactly how much I hear you ask? Well, an impressive 12kg per person per year.

Myth 2: The best coffees in the world come from Italy

Bella Italia. Wonderful country and people. Closely associated with coffee. Yet there is NO coffee growing in Italy!

The majority of coffee is produced in Brazil, accounting for 40% of the world’s coffee.

Myth 3: A darker roast means a stronger coffee

This is widely believed to be the case but isn’t actually true. The reason why is that roasting coffee burns off caffeine and leads to a more acidic taste…but not stronger. In other words,  ighter-roasted coffee beans are actually stronger in caffeine and flavour.

Bonus: On this note you may have heard of Robusta and Arabica, the two main categories of coffee. Do you know which contains more caffeine?

  • Well, Robusta coffee has a more acidic and harsh flavor with a higher level of caffeine
  • Arabica is known for its delicate flavor and lower acidity

Fun Coffee Fact Of The Day

Last but not least, coffee beans are only called “beans” because of the resemblance – they’re actually BERRIES!
